Before

Arranging the Funeral

Date

First, the death must be registered, and a death certificate obtained, as required by law before any funeral arrangements can proceed. If a post-mortem or coroner’s involvement is needed, this may impact timing. Once these steps are complete, we’ll help you arrange a suitable funeral date that accommodates your family’s wishes and venue availability.

Step 1

Medical Certificate of Cause of Death

Starting September 2024, a practitioner who attended the deceased can complete an MCCD and propose a cause of death. Medical examiners will then review this cause independently.

Step 2

Registering the Death

In England, a relative should ideally register the death. To find the local registry office, visit www.gov.uk/register-offices and arrange an appointment. After receiving necessary paperwork, the Registrar’s Office will contact the next of kin to schedule a convenient time for registration.
